Quikster gets the Ax

Netflix angered many of it's customers with a price increase that took affect just a couple of months ago. This not only angered many of it's customers, many of them responded by canceling their Netflix memberships altogether. The CEO of Netflix, Reed Hastings, said that the price increase was part of a bigger plan, leaving many of its customers to wonder what would come next.

Last month he responded with a bold plan that would involve Netflix just offering streaming as it's service, and offering DVD's by mail through a new service named Quikster. Quikster would offer the same DVD's by mail that netflix is known for, the only things that would change is the name on the mail envelope and Quikster would offer Video Games by mail and DVD's.

In many ways this makes some since, however The idea of a splitting the services between two businesses creates some problems to. An example is that two services means that both will use two different web site and two different login pages. This means that if a customer has both services they need to log into Netflix to add movies to their streaming list and if they wanted to add movies to their DVD by mail service they would need log into Quikster to do it. The biggest problem with the split is that Netflix customers will have to sign up for Quikster when the switch is going to take place. This could be a headache for customers and it may guarantee that many of them may not sign up for Quikster.

The Newest news, Reed Hastings says that the spit of the DVD by mail service and the instant streaming services is not going to happen. Netflix is going to continue offering DVD's by mail and instant streaming as it's services. There is not going to be a service called Quikster. In Fact if you try to go to www.Quikster.com you will be redirected to Netflx's web site. Reed Hastings explained that he now feels that the decision to split it's services was made to quickly and that he did not consider what the current customers would think. The good news is that anyone who was angered by the idea of a split does not have to worry because it is not going to happen.
