Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus
Sly Cooper Review
Welcome to my review of Sly Cooper for the PS2. This game developed by Sucker Punch Studios and Published by Sony. Sly Cooper is Rated E. In high hopes I bring you the review for Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus.
On the positive side this game has a great storyline. With great characters, a lovable protagonist, great level design, great cut scenes and memorable bosses, this game could have easily been made into a movie but was instead made into a really good video game. The game succeeds in Making a story about a thief that is childish but is also edgy enough to not turn away more adult players. Also the story is so easy to follow that it is extremely easy to become emerged into the game world to the point of you may not want to leave. The game is filled with a cast of characters that are all memorable and will push the story into greater depth than some other games. The second positive thing about this game is that it has really good controls. The Controls are a bit tricky to learn but after you learn them you will be stealing like a pro in no time. This is good because for the amount of different things you can do in this game the studio made it really easy to find the controls that you will need while controls that you do not need are easy to flip through using the L2 and R2 buttons. The third positive thing about this game is that it is easily replayable. Everyone should find a level that they truly like that makes it enjoyable to go back and replay it again and again. The clue collecting does not hurt either. Each level has clue bottles in it. If you collect all the clues you can open a safe that is on most levels of the game. Once you open the safe the game rewards you with a new thief ability that makes the game a little easier. This makes it more than tempting to go back into the level multiple times so you can try to find all the clue bottles. Sprinkle on some boss battles that are cinematic and memorable, and you end up with some of the best boss battles that you will most likely go back and play again.
On the negative side at times this game is way too easy. Once you get use to the controls and after you have opened a few safes the game gets really easy and you will find yourself sailing through the game on just one life in no time at all. The second bad thing with this game is that at times you just do not feel like the master thief that the game says you will become. I am no way saying that I think that the game should let you rob stores but the gameplay is disappointing in two ways. First there are a handful of cities that it takes place in and the cities are so small and they feel so unlived in, when you play the game it does not feel like you are being a master thief. Second each city is full of levels that you have to go through to get the keys at the end of the level. The levels are fun to play, but at times you do not feel like a thief because what thief has to go through a race to win the keys that will let you fight the boss. However the levels are fun to play and levels like the racing break up the game so it does not feel too repetitive, making it not that big of a problem. And finally the game dynamics is difficult to deal with. In this game there is no health bar, just your lives. This means that if you are hit just once you die. And if you die you go back to the beginning of the level. This means that if you get hit near the end of a level you have to replay the level from the beginning, which gets very frustrating. Later in the game you can collect horseshoes to try to increase your chances of not dying but unfortunately you can only hold 2 horseshoes at a time making it so if you get hit three times you are dead. Unfortunately this only helps a little, because sometimes enemies will take cheap shots at you that will hurt you and then knock you into something that will cost you your last horseshoe and your life point. Evan after you get use to the controls it can be a bummer at times if you meet an enemy that you have not seen before. This may sound like a bad thing but after you get use to the game you can easily identify before an enemy does a cheap shot making it not such a big problem.
because of all of the above this game gets a B.

One word of friendly advice this is a excellent game and if the sequels are as good as this game you may want to get the game in the new PS3 bundle.
